Family Resources

Educational, spiritual, convenience and other resources for families

When a child is in the hospital, we know that this can affect the whole family. Inova Children’s Hospital is dedicated to family and patient-centered care and has a host of resources to help support children and their families during their stay.

Family lounges

Each floor of Inova Children’s Hospital includes designated space for families. These lounges provide a comfortable space for families to have a meal, rest and work remotely, if needed. These areas also allow families to keep their child’s room a restful and quiet place. It is very important that family members take care of themselves during a child’s hospitalization. We hope these family lounges help make that possible.

Child Life services

Our certified Child Life specialists (CCLS) are specially trained to understand the needs of children and families in the hospital.  A CCLS may work with siblings to help them cope with their brother or sister being in the hospital. Child life specialists also work with parents and other family members to understand what to expect and how to support the entire family during a child’s hospitalization.
