Inova L. J. Murphy Children's Hospital is an award-winning, full-service children’s hospital that offers the highest level of dedicated pediatric care in Northern Virginia.

Our comprehensive medical services are geared toward the unique treatment of infants, children and adolescents, and support for their families. And, as a children’s hospital on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, we are able to care for our patients from the time they are born through adulthood.

Our State-of-the-Art Facility was Built for Your Child and Your Family


When we opened the doors of our new building in January 2016, it was a landmark moment. The only dedicated children's hospital in Northern Virginia, we provide care in a welcoming hospital that offers the latest in technical innovation in kid-friendly spaces. Facts about the hospital:

  • 226-bed pediatric hospital with all private rooms
  • 108-bed, level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with private and semiprivate rooms
  • 18-bed all private Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) that includes 2 designated negative-pressure isolation rooms, each extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) capable.
  • 8-bed all private Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (PCVICU), each extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) capable.
  • 22-bed Pediatric Cardiac Unit and Intermediate Care Unit
  • 48-bed Medical/Surgical Unit, with in-unit Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • 22-bed Hematology/Oncology Unit with positive-pressure ventilated, protective-care environment
  • Child and family support space on every floor, including four indoor play rooms, an outdoor park, and four family lounges
  • Child Life Services within each unit and within ancillary departments and surgical services
