Admissions and Transfers

Admissions

Whether an admission is scheduled or same-day/emergent, the One Call Admissions line is the only number you need: 1-877-900-9543 (1-877-900-9KID). If you have admitting privileges, the patient will simply be admitted under your service. If not, the child will be admitted via the hospitalist service.

Transferring a Patient

If a child or neonate needs to be transferred from another facility to Inova Children’s Hospital, call One Call Admissions line 1-877-900-9543 (1-877-900-9KID). An attending physician will mobilize the pediatric/neonatal critical care transport team, discuss the availability of a bed and plan for interim stabilization. When appropriate, telemedicine can also be initialized at this time.

COVID-19 Testing for Pediatric Patients

Inova Children's Hospital strives to provide the safest experience for all our patients who need surgery, medical procedures or an inpatient stay. In response to feedback from our team members and community partners we are taking these important steps to continue to best protect our patients and our team members. Effective immediately:

  1. All pediatric patients being admitted to the hospital will be tested for COVID-19. If the admission is planned, testing should occur prior to admission so that the child can be placed in the appropriate bed – this testing should occur at the practice admitting the child or at an Inova testing location. Patients admitted through the emergency department will be tested in-house.
  2. All neonates born to mothers with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 will be tested for COVID-19 at 24 hours after birth and again after 48 hours, if the initial test is negative.
  3. All patients undergoing a surgery or procedure will need to have a COVID-19 test. This test should be completed two to three days before the surgery or procedure, so the results are back in time.

We recognize the COVID-19 test can be a daunting and uncomfortable experience, especially for our pediatric patients. Pediatric-friendly testing is available for your patients at the Inova Fairfax Hospital Pre-Procedural Evaluation Clinic. To make an appointment, please have your patients call 571.472.3344 two to three days before their scheduled surgery, procedure or planned admission. Patients should leave a voicemail message, and someone will call back shortly.

Please reference the frequently asked questions or find additional information related to Inova’s COVID-19 response and testing process.

You may direct parents to inovachildrens.org/covid19 for testing information and guidance to prepare their child for the test.

Thank you for your continued support.
