Stephen B. Baker, MD, DDS, FACS, FAAP
Medical Director, Inova Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Program
Dr. Stephen Baker is a craniofacial surgeon who has both medical and dental degrees and has completed fellowships in oral & maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He has been in practice since 2001, and he is currently a Professor of Plastic Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital in the Department of Plastic Surgery. Because of Dr. Baker’s unique training in both medicine and dentistry, he is uniquely qualified to provide care to patients with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies.
Dr. Baker has served as the President of the American Society for Craniofacial Surgery, the American Academy of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, and the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has authored over 50 publications, 25 chapters, edited two textbooks and has received national awards for his research. Dr. Baker has worked on many international missions in Poland, and Peru. He has also worked with Operation Smile and treated patients from Amnesty International. Dr. Baker has been invited to moderate and participate on many panels at national meetings demonstrating his techniques and outcomes. In 2016, he was invited to serve as a Visiting Professor for the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, a position that allowed him to travel to other plastic surgery programs in the United States and lecture on his techniques.
Dr. Baker is a member of the following societies: American Board of Plastic Surgery, American Society for Craniofacial Surgery, American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Baker serves on the NIDCR Cleft Surgery Data and Safety Monitoring committee. Dr. Baker's goal as Medical Director of the team is to provide world class care in an environment that is uplifting, pleasant, and respectful to the patient and their family at all times.
Leon Moores, MD
Pediatric Neurosurgery
Dr. Leon Moores serves as the Medical Director for Neurosurgery and Chief Executive Officer of Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. He is board certified as a neurological surgeon and is a Fellow in both the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Moores’ medical career focus for more than fifteen years has been pediatric neurosurgery with special expertise in Craniofacial Abnormalities, Spina Bifida and Brain and Spinal Cord Tumors. Dr. Moores also gained vital surgical experience in combat zones while serving as a neurosurgeon with the Army and has published and presented internationally in the field of complex craniofacial reconstruction. Most recently Dr. Moores served as a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine.
Dr. Moores’ interest in pediatric neurosurgery stems from his desire to help children and their families deal with what is often one of the most challenging and life-changing events they will ever face – a diagnosis requiring neurosurgical intervention. The complex emotions that each family develops around the news of a congenital abnormality in their child require the highest level of compassion and caring in addition to technical surgical expertise. Dr. Moores works closely with the team's craniofacial surgeons to deliver the best possible care for each child.
Lora Hindenburg, RN, MSN
Clinical Manager/Team Coordinator
Lora Hindenburg received her BSN from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and began her career at Inova in 1982. She has worked as a staff RN in Psychiatry and the Coronary Care Unit. While attending graduate school, Lora worked as an Inova Fairfax Hospital Administrative Director. She received a MSN in 1988. After graduation, she joined a large university-based ambulatory adult practice group in Washington, DC as nurse manager. Lora has been Clinic Manager (team coordinator) for the Inova Children's Craniofacial Program since 1994. She is an active member of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and has served on several of the Association's committees. Christopher C. Chang, MD
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Christopher C. Chang is a craniofacial plastic surgeon. Over the course of 15 years, he attended Harvard, NYU, Yale and Johns Hopkins for his training and craniofacial fellowship. He has worked in translational medicine at the NIH and in plastic surgery research, pioneering the forefront of craniofacial biology, vascularization, and healing. He has a particular interest in cleft, midface, and jaw deformities as well as Pierre Robin Sequence and pediatric sleep apnea. He strongly believes in the principles of facial growth, childhood development and team-based care for pediatric patients and families. Dr. Chang also regularly participates in international mission trips providing cleft and craniofacial care to children all over the world. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
Tzujane Jenny Chen, MD
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Tzujane Jenny Chen, MD is a plastic surgeon with specialization in both craniofacial surgery and pediatric plastic surgery. Her clinical interests include cleft care, rhinoplasty, orthognathic surgery, mandibular distraction for Pierre Robin Sequence, and ear reconstruction including microtia reconstruction, otoplasty, and EarWell. During her clinical training, her mentors pioneered developments in equipment and hardware for cleft palate and mandibular distraction surgery. Her research interests include enhanced recovery after cleft palate surgery (ERAS) and speech outcomes after orthognathic surgery. She has been a speaker at regional, national, and international plastic surgery meetings, presenting on topics including orthognathic surgery and rhinoplasty. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and conversational with American Sign Language.
Michelle M. Roeser, MD
Otolaryngology
Dr. Michelle Roeser pursued her undergraduate education in Pre-Professional Studies and Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame and was awarded a Bachelor of Science with Cum Laude distinction in 2001. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC in 2005. She completed Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she trained extensively in a variety of procedures including head and neck oncology, otology, pediatrics, rhinology, laryngology, and facial plastic surgery.
Dr. Roeser has been an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and is a member of several committees. She is also active in national health care politics as an advocate for the specialty and her patients. She is eager to participate in medical education and teaching medical students and residents. Dr. Roeser is active in the local medical community and was elected president of the Washington Metropolitan Otolaryngology Society for 2014-2015.
Christopher Tsang, MD
Otolaryngology
Dr. Christopher Tsang is a pediatric otolaryngologist based in McLean, VA. He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and attended medical school in Boston, MA, at Tufts University School of Medicine. He stayed in New England for his residency training, developing his clinical skills at multiple institutions including Tufts Medical Center, Rhode Island Hospital (Brown University) and Boston Children’s Hospital (Harvard University). He then underwent an additional year of fellowship training in pediatric otolaryngology at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE (Thomas Jefferson Medical College).
He is well trained in all aspects of otolaryngology, but he is particularly interested in otology (especially endoscopic ear surgery and cochlear implantation) and aerodigestive disorders (such as airway anomalies and reconstruction). He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and holds memberships in the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, as well as the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Dr. Tsang has authored or co-authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as several chapters in otolaryngology and pediatrics textbooks. He has also presented multiple times at national and international conferences.
Christine Sofie, Au.D., CCC-A, FAAA
Audiology
Dr. Sofie is a clinical audiologist with Otolaryngology Associates and Advanced Hearing Services since 1995. She joined the Inova Children’s Craniofacial Team in 1996. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from West Virginia University and a Master's Degree in Audiology from The George Washington University. In 2004 she earned her Doctorate in Audiology from The Arizona School of Health Sciences.
Dr. Sofie is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and a professional member of The American Speech-Language & Hearing Association, The Academy of Doctors of Audiology, and The Hearing Loss Association of America.
Rebecca Miller, MS, CGC
Genetic Counselor
Rebecca Miller is a licensed and certified genetic counselor at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling from the University of Cincinnati. She was a genetic counselor at the University of California – Los Angeles before returning home to the Northern Virginia area in 2015.
Rebecca currently works in various pediatric and adult clinics at Inova and the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. Rebecca has been part of the craniofacial team since 2016.
Colette Reynolds, MA, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathology
Colette Reynolds is a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist. She received her M.A. in Speech Language Pathology from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She provides speech, language and feeding assessment and therapy for children with cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies, velopharyngeal dysfunction and other medical and developmental concerns. She is certified as an Early Interventionist in VA in order to provide services to children, newborn to age 3, with developmental and communication concerns.
Her clinical interests include instrumental assessment of velopharyngeal dysfunction for children with and without cleft palate. Her mission is to help children and to help parents to help their children to speak clearly and say what they mean for success at home, in play and in learning. Colette is a professional member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
Jennifer Bellone Christian, MA, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathology
Jennifer Bellone Christian is a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist. She has been a member of the Inova Craniofacial Team since 1995. She evaluates and treats speech, language and swallowing in newborns through adolescents in the outpatient and home-based settings. Jennifer is a certified Early Intervention provider in the state of Virginia who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University of Maryland and was awarded her Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology from the George Washington University.
She is a professional member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
Kendra Lubarsky, PsyD
Pediatric Psychology
Dr. Kendra (Battaglia) Lubarsky is a clinical psychologist and the Medical Director for the Department of Psychology at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She specializes in providing short term, solutions focused and evidence-based care to children and adolescents diagnosed with chronic medical conditions. Her passion is improving access to mental health care and working with children and adolescents to increase their sense of agency within their systems (e.g., home, school and medical settings).
Dr. Lubarsky completed her undergraduate training at Cedarville University (OH), and her doctoral training at Wheaton College outside of Chicago, IL. She completed her internship at Philhaven Hospital (PA) and her post-doctoral training in pediatric psychology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Lubarsky is passionate about interdisciplinary work as well as training future psychologists through the externship training program at PSV.
Nupur Gupta, PsyD
Pediatric Psychology
Dr. Nupur Gupta is a clinical psychologist at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She specializes in providing evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents diagnosed with chronic medical conditions. She utilizes individual strengths, while respecting the impact of multicultural factors, in empowering families and promoting resiliency.
Dr. Gupta completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia and her doctoral studies at the American School of Professional Psychology. She completed her internship in pediatric psychology at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and her post-doctoral training at Children’s National Hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Dr. Gupta has worked in various medical settings throughout her career and as a native of northern Virginia, she is proud to serve her community.
Anita Vitale, PhD
Pediatric Psychology
Dr. Anita Vitale is a clinical psychologist at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She specializes in providing evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents diagnosed with chronic medical conditions. Her specialty extends to providing additional support and resources to family members.
Dr. Vitale completed her undergraduate training at the University of Virginia, and her doctoral training at Nova Southeastern University. She completed her internship and her post-doctoral training at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. Dr. Vitale has presented nationally and internationally on topics regarding children and adolescents with medical concerns, as well as those with general mental health concerns. She has engaged in interdisciplinary training and work across her career, and she is an active member of the Society of Pediatric Psychology.
Girish Banaji, DDS
Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Girish Banaji is a board certified pediatric dentist and Fellow, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and received training in pediatric dentistry at Howard University College of Dentistry. Dr Banaji has practiced pediatric dentistry since 1993 in challenging clinical settings. His clinical experiences enable him to diagnose and treat routine as well as complex problems encountered in pediatric dentistry. Being committed to prevention of dental problems, he institutes a comprehensive preventive program for all his patients.

David Treff, DDS
Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. David Treff is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and American Academy of Pediatricians. He is credentialed at Inova Children's Hospital and provides dental care in the operating room for complex cases.
Dr. Dave's broad experience in oral health began in medicine and surgery. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree and certificate studies, he assisted surgeons at regional hospitals in Washington and Puget Sound. He completed his "predoctoral" dental education at NYUCD where he participated in Honors Special Patient Care and Pediatric Dentistry. While there he was selected twice to represent the college abroad providing dentistry to underserved children in Songea,Tanzania and Copan, Honduras.
Dr. Dave continued his postdoctoral studies at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center where he completed his certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. He provided care to communities in Fort Yukon and Venetie, Alaska. Dr. Dave has considerable experience in residency and private practice providing oral conscious sedation (i.e., procedural sedation) and is committed to the care of patients with special health care needs. Craig R. Dufresne, MD, FACS

Dr. Craig Dufresne earned his medical degree from Columbia University and completed his general surgery training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Medical Institutions. He completed his plastic surgery training at the Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery / New York University Medical Center and pursued fellowship training in craniofacial and microvascular surgery at New York University Medical Center.
Dr. Dufresne has co-authored numerous papers, written chapters on craniofacial surgery and published book and article reviews. He has been appointed to academic and institutional positions and visiting professorships at the NlH as well as hospitals, universities and clinics in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. He has been an active team member of the craniofacial team since 1988 and the medical director from 2002-2014.
Theodore Fetter, MD
Otolaryngology

Dr. Theodore Fetter attended the United States Naval Academy and the University of Rochester. His medical education (MD) was obtained at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Fetter was the Department Chairman and Director of the Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA. where he established and achieved accreditation for a residency program in Otolaryngology. He completed fellowships at the House Ear Institute, Los Angeles, CA. and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.
Dr. Fetter served as a physician in the U.S. Navy and was deployed on the naval hospital ship USNS COMFORT in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He is currently in private practice in Vienna, VA. His practice emphasizes Otology.
